The First Strawberries
In the beginning of the world, there was First Man and First Woman. Together they built a house at the edge of a forest. They were very happy, but like all humans do at times, they began to argue.
Finally, First Woman became so angry that she said she was leaving and never coming back. So, First Woman began walking down a path through the forest. She never looked back.
As the day grew later, First Man began to worry. At last he started down the same path looking for his wife. The Sun looked down on First man and took pity on him. The Sun asked him if he was still angry with First Woman. He said that he was not angry any more. The Sun asked if he would like to have her back. First Man said that yes he would.
The Sun found First Woman still walking down the path. So to try and get her to stop the Sun made some beautiful blueberries to grown beneath her feet. The blueberries were large and ripe, but First Woman did not stop.
Further down the path, the Sun made some delicious blackberries to grow. The berries were very black and plump, but First Woman did not stop.
Finally, the Sun decided to create a plant that had never grown on earth before. Maybe this plant would cause the woman to stop. The plant covered the ground in front of First Woman. Suddenly she noticed a beautiful smell. Finally, she stopped and looked down at her feet. Growing on the path were beautiful red berries. She stopped and picked one to eat. It was delicious!
As First Woman ate the berry, the anger that she felt began to go away. She thought of her husband and how she missed him and wanted to go home.
First Woman began to gather some berries. When she had all that she could carry, she headed home. Soon she met First Man. Together they shared the berries, and then hand in hand they walked back to their home.
Because of this, this berry or the strawberry, reminds us not to argue and is a symbol of good luck.
